December 1, 2018 marks the centenary of the death of George M. Jordan, son of Mount and Mary Jordan, husband of Maude Ethel Casey, father of five children and grandfather of twenty-one.

During the late summer or early autumn of 1918, George came down with the Spanish influenza virus that was epidemic in the country at the time.  Unlike many others, George managed to recover from the illness, but it left him weak.  Then in late November, 1918..

A week prior to his death he was taken with severe pains which was pronounced appendicitis.  He was brought to the Jasper Co. Hospital on Saturday and a specialist from Chicago called, and an operation performed at 12 o’clock that night.  His death occurred at 5 o’clock Sunday morning.

George died at age 33 on December 1, 1918, in the Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, Indiana.  Rest in Peace, Grandpa.
