sold to Jonathan Jorden

This Indenture made and entered into the second day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen, between James Jorden Senr of Cabell County and state of Virginia of the one part, and Jonathan Jorden of the county and tate aforesaid, Witnesseth that the said James Jorden Senr for and in consideration of one dollar to him in hand paid hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain sell and del. a certan tract or parcel of Land lying in the county of Cabell and situated on Mud River above and adjoining a survey of John Morris Senr and where sd Jonathan Jorden now lives containing one hundred and fifty acres to have and to hold the said tract of Land with the tenements and all and singular the appurtenances unto the said Jonathan Jorden his heirs and assigns forever to and for the only proper use and behoof of him the said Jonathan Jorden his heirs and assigns forever and the sd James Jorden Senr for himself his heirs the sd Land with all and singular the appurtenances before mentioned unto the sd Jonathan Jorden his heirs and assigns free from the claim of myself my heirs and assigns or any persons claiming in through or under me. In witness whereof the said James Jordan senr have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

At a Court held for Cabell County on Tuesday the sixth day of April 1813, An indenture of bargain and sale between James Jorden Senr. Of the one part and Jonathan Jorden of the other part was acknowledged by the said James Jorden Senr and ordered to be recorded.

INDENTURE

Jonathan Jordan Senr and Rachel his wife – 150 acres in Cabell County
situated on the Mud River

sold to Thomas Maupin
September 13, 1826
for $500


Fee paid} This Indenture made & entered into this 13th day of September in the year of our lord 1826 between Jonathan Jordan and Rachel his wife of the first part & Thos Maupin of the second part all of the county of cabell & state of Virginia Witnesseth that the said Jonathan Jordan Senr & Rachel his wife for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath this day bargaind & sold and do by these presents bargain sell and deliver unto the sd Thos. Maupin a certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the county of cabell & state aforesaid and situate on mud river known by the ploace whereon the sd Jonathan Jordan senr now lives an containing one hundred and fifty acres be the same more or less and bounded as followeth towit. Begining at three white oaks inside of James Jordan jrs field known as a corner made between James Jordan jr, John Morris jr and the sd Jonathan Jordan thence with a marked line between sd Jonathan Jordan & said John Morris across mud river to a hawthorn thence up mud river to a beech on the bank of sd River, thence with the said marked line of sd Morris & sd Jonathan Jordan Senr to two white oaks made by the said Jonathan Jordan and the said John Morris jr on the old original line made by Duvale thence with the old line of Duvalls and its courses & distance to two dogwoods thence with the courses of sd old line to an ash & sugar tree thence a straight line with said James Jordan jr to the Begining. To have and to hold the said land with all and singular the appurtancces hereditaments premises thereto to the sd Thos Maupin his heirs assigns and administrs forever; To and for the only purposes & behoof of the sd Thos Maupin his heirs & forever. and the said Jonathan Jordan senr & Rachel his wife for themselves their heirs assigns & doth warrant sd land & Tenements free from themselves their Heirs and assigns & and against any person claiming through by or under them & they agree to Warrant & forever defend the sd Land from all persons whatsoever. In Testimony Whereof they have hereunto set their hands & seals this year and date above written.

Cabell County towit.
We Thos Kilgore & Abia Rece justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the State of virginia do hereby certify that Jonathan Jordan a party to a certain Deed bearing date on the 12th day of September 1826 & hereto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid & acknowledged the same to be his act and Deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the clerk of the county court of cabell in order that the said Deed may be recorded. Given under our hands & seals this 12th day of September 1826.

We Thomas Kilgore & Abia Rece justices of the peace in the county aforesaid & State of Va do hereby certify that Rachel Jordan wife of Jonathan Jordan partices to a certain Deed bearing date on 12th day of Sept 1826 & hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid & being examined by us privily and apart from her husband & having the Deed fully explained to her She the sd Rachel Jordan acknowledged the same to be her act & Deed and declared that she had willingly signed sealed & delivered the same & that she wished not to retract it. Given under our hands & seals this 12th day of Sept 1826
