Last Will and Testament of James Jordan of Goochland County

In the name of God Amen I James Jordan of the parish of St. James Northam in the County of Goochland being in a lon’ state of health but of sound Sense and memory do hereby Constitute this my last Will & testament, in manner and and form following

Imps: I give my Soul to god who gave it me, and my Body to the Erth to be buried at the descretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned, also my estate both real and personal which it has pleased almighty God to endow me with I give and dispose off in manner & form following viz,

Item. I lend to my beloved Wife Sarah Jordan during her natural life or Widowhood my whole estate both real and personal & at the decease or Marriage of my beloved Wife Sarah Jordan the said estate to be given in maner and form following

Item. I give and bequeath to my leaven Children my whole estate that I am now possest with, and that that I expect to recive frorom my Fathers estate when his Executors recovers it by law off Michal Johnson & Benjamin Johnson and one free man which the Executors are at law with for the following Negroes Handy, Will, George, Fann, & lucy, which I am to have an equal part off among my Fathers Six children when recovered and my Will and desire is that the whole of my estate both real and personal be sold at the death or Marriage of my beloved Wife & equally divided among my Children hereafter named and their lawful Heirs forever, James Jordan, Samuel Jordan, Charles Flemming Jordan, Miles Jordan, Elizabeth Jordan, Sarah Jordan, Reubin Jordan, John Jordan, (turn over) William Jordan, Matthew Jordan, Obediah Jordan, I do hereby appoint my loving Wife Executrix with Jesse Ellis, and John Ellis, Sof of John who I appoint Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills by me made in Testimony whereof I have herunto sett my hand and Seal this twentieth day of May 1781.
