Marriage Bond and Permission Slip
October 15, 1798
Know all men by these presents that we John Jourdain & Leroy Newman are held & firmly bound unto James Wood Esqr Governor of Virginia in the Just & full sum of One Hundred & fifty Dollars to which payment well & truly to be made we do bind ourselves our Heirs &c Jointly & Severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals & dated this 15th day of Octbr 1798
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound John Jourdain hath this day obtained licence to marry Eliza Newman of there is no lawfull cause to obstruct sd marriage then this obligation to be void else to remain in full force
